MOGADISHU, Somalia (Horn Observer) The US Political coordinator at the US Mission to teh United Nations has on Monday called for the Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to end offesive by the Somali National Army in Gedo, calling it "Politically motivated and unacceptable"

"The deployment of SNA troops to a politically motivated offensive in the Gedo region of Jubaland is unacceptable and diverts resources from the agreed roadmap for security operations.” US Political coordinator at the US Mission to the United Nations Rodney Hunter said while speaking at the UN Security council session on Somalia, "It is imperative that Federal Government and Federal Members States security services focus on combatting al-Shabaab, rather than engaging in armed conflict with each other to resolve political disputes.”

"We call on President Farmaajo to end the Somali National Army offensive in Gedo, and for President Farmaajo and Jubaland President Madobe to each commit to dialogue and reconciliation.” Rodney Hunter added.

The speech which is the first of its kind from the US government follows after the Somali government deployed Somali National Army "SNA” to take over Gedo region from the Jubbaland administration, which the federal government does not recognize, with the latest reports indicating that confrontation between the SNA and Jubbaland army took place in some of areas of Gedo region, including the border town of Belet Hawo.
