MOGADISHU (Horn Observer) The Somalia's Awramale clan elders have alleged Jubbaland leadership on targeting their men and women in Jubbaland amid the deadly clan-based conflict that led to the deaths of dozen of civilians in the west of Kismayo.

In a statement sent to the newsrooms, the Awrmale clan elders blamed of Jubbaland security minister to have committed human rights violations by deploying forces and enabling its "Harti" clan militias to launch an attack on innocent civilians resulting in the deaths of 35 innocent civilians including children as young as four years-old and causing severe injuries of nine people including pregnant women and elderly mothers.
"These are innocent civilians who were not part of the war," said the clan elders "This is ethnic cleansing taking place in the face of Somali Federal Government and the Jubbaland."
Despite the clan conflict taking place on the outskirts of Kismayo, the seat of Jubbaland, the Awrmale elders claimed that their fellow clans men including those working for United Nations office were targeted and illegally detained in retaliation for their affiliation to the Awrmale clan.
"It is like that Awrmale businessmen, NGOs staff including UN are not safe in Kismayo at the moment," the elders added.
The elders have presented videotapes showing bodies and injured civilians including children purportedly committed by the Jubbaland-backed militia.
Last week, Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has called for an urgent ceasefire to the clan conflict in west of Kismayo and in Wanla-weyn district of Lower Shabelle.  Both conflicts took heavy toll on civilian lives.
There is no independent verification on the allegations made by the Awrmale clan elders.  Horn Observer reporter repeatedly called Jubbaland's Inrerior Minister, Mohamed Warsame Darwish, whose clan militia were blamed to be part of the fight but Mr. Darwish refused to respond to our queries with regard to the allegations.
