Somalia, Kenya to cooperate on the fight against Covid-19
MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) Somalia's Foreign Minister on Monday said that his country will work with Kenya to strengthen their cooperation on preventing the spread of Covid-19.
The two countries are struggling to contain the deadly virus. Somalia has recorded 1089 total Coronavirus cases with the death toll to 52, registering the highest COVID-19 cases in the Horn of the African region after Djibouti. Kenya reported a total 700 cases and 33 deaths.
A telephone conversation between the Somali Foreign Minister, Ahmed Isse Awad and Ambassador Lucas Tumbo, Kenya's ambassador to Somalia, exchanged views on respective responses towards the virus in their states.
Kenya has offered support to its neighbouring Somalia in the fight against the pandemic which had affected both countries socially and economically.
"I spoke on the phone with Ambassador Lucas Tumbo of Kenya; We exchanged briefs on our respective responses towards COVID-19. I thanked Ambassador Tumbo for Kenya’s offer of support. I expressed our admiration of Kenya’s commendable response towards this pandemic,” Foreign Minister, Isse Awad said.
Somalia and Kenya have Despite the recent diplomatic row linked maritime case ongoing at the International Court of Justice, the neighbouring states still share significant trade, transport and security cooperation.
