    Somalia's number of Coronavirus infections rose to 1,284 after reporting 65 new cases

    MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somalia's Ministry of Health on Thursday reported 65 new Coronavirus cases and the total number of coronavirus infections in the country rose to 1,284.

Somalia continues to struggle to contain spread of Coronavirus pandemic.
MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somalia's Ministry of Health on Thursday reported 65 new Coronavirus cases and the total number of coronavirus infections in the country rose to 1,284.

Consequently the country remains to be the highest one with the deaths related to Coronavirus, the virus that causes COVID-19 and is mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales.

Across the country a total of 53 deaths have been confirmed since the first case was confirmed on March 16.  The latest victim was a 47-years-old woman who passed away in the southern port town of Kismayo late on Wednesday.


According to the latest statistics, with 24 cases, the South West State became the region with the highest number of confirmed cases. The breakaway Somaliland has recorded 14 cases while Puntland and Banadir, the region which the capital Mogadishu sits on has 13 cases each. Jubaland has one confirmed case.

Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Health reported a total of 135 recovered patients across the country.
