MOGADISHU (Horn Observer) Rights groups demanded from the Somaliland authorities to release a journalist working for the Goobjoog Media who was detained by the Somaliland police at the Hargeysa airport on Saturday, Somalia's goobjoog media reports


The journalist Omar Seerbiya and his wife traveled from Mogadishu - where he was based and Goobjoog media’s headquertered is located - for family related purposes to Hargeysa . However upon arrival at Egal international airport in Hargeysa, the Somaliland police informed the journalist that ‘He is under arrest’ according to Goobjoog Media reports.

Omar Seerbiya was working for the independent radio and television station - Goobjoog media - based in Mogadishu and it was not immediately clear reasons behind his arrest.  Goobjoog Media demands his immediate release.

The rights groups demanded the immediate release of the journalst who was held in Communicado since Saturday.

The press freedom of Somalia and especially in Somaliland regions has been under strict pressure from the authorities, leading to the arrest of several leading journalist some of whom critisized the admnistration.
