    SOMA Distributed PPE for protecting journalists from the risks of COVID-19

    Mogadishu - Somalia 19 June 2020: The Somali Media Association (SOMA) has distributed Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to all its member media outlets operational in all over the regions of Somalia.

Mogadishu - Somalia 19 June 2020: The Somali Media Association (SOMA) has distributed Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to all its member media outlets operational in all over the regions of Somalia.
SOMA has organized, purchased, and distributed the Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to last for three months from June, July and August to twenty- five member media houses across Somalia.

The purchased Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) consisting of Face Masks, Hand Sanitizers and gloves were intended to be distributed to the journalists working for all the 25 SOMA member media stations to ensure their protection from the pandemic coronavirus disease.


"This equipment distribution will ensure the media and journalists access to the Personal Protection Equipment – PPE and enable the journalists to reduce the risks of contracting the Covid-19 while performing their tasks as journalist.”Says Mohamed Abduwahab, SOMA Secretary General.

The main purpose of distributing the PPE is to improve the safety and protection of media and journalists from the ongoing contextual risks as well as the immediate risks posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

SOMA wishes to thank the International Media Support (IMS) for its generous support towards this important services to ensure safety and protection of journalists during the Covid-19 pandemic and response to the coronavirus through content production disseminated in the media to raise public awareness on the deadly disease.

Furthermore, during the months of June, July and August 2020, in partnership with the International Media Support (IMS), SOMA is presently conducting awareness raising programs on Covid-19 disease that will support public awareness raising program activities on the pandemic through the media

The media awareness raising program broadcasted throughout all SOMA media stations for wide public outreach in Somalia include production of a weekly program with specific focus on the impact of Covid-19 on daily life in Somalia. The media program transmitted three times per week will be 60 minutes long,10 minutes package in the beginning consisting 35 minutes debate and 15 minutes of audience live call- in feedback.
