SOMA condemns Somali police officer's shooting on radio journalist in Mogadishu
MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali Media Association (SOMA) condemns the act of shooting which a police officer shot and injured journalist Abdifatah Abduqadir Sharif who works for the Mogadishu-based independent Radio Danan in Mogadishu's Sey Biyano neighborhood on Thursday evening.
A Somali police officer shot and injured the journalist on a Tuk-Tuk taxi known as "Bajaaj” as he was heading to his home from work, according to the Danan radio management. The journalist has been admitted to hospital and is recovering.
The police officer was not arrested and Somali government did not publicly comment on the shooting incident.
Somali Media Association (SOMA) calls for the immediate and prompt investigation into the journalist’s shooting and bring those responsible to justice.
"On behalf of SOMA, I vehemently condemn the act of violence against Radio Danan journalist and demand immediate and prompt investigation into the incident.” Mohamed Abduwahab, SOMA Secretary General said, "crimes against journalist must not go unpunished. SOMA wishes journalist Abdifatah’s immediate recovery,” Mr. Abduwahab added.
