MOGADISHU (Horn Observer) The Federal Parliament of Somalia on Sunday voted in favor of the 2017 budget, following 2 weeks of review and consultations.

The first deputy speaker of the parliament, Abdiweli Ibrahim Sheikh Mudey requested the parliamentarians to vote for the budget, after the financial committee of the parliament submitted for approval.

167 lawmakers voted in favor of the budget, while 2 abstained.

The Minister of Finance Abdirahman Duale Bayle thanked the lawmakers for approving the budget, who also informed that 50% of the budget will be recieved as grants.

"2017 budget is 260 Million and 50% will be recieved from outside.” Minister Bayle told the lawmakers.

Somalia has been without functioning central government for more than 2 decades during which all government institutions were destroyed.  The government currently relies on the revenues collected from the airport and the port of Mogadishu.
