MOGADISHU, Somalia (Horn Observer) Somali Football Federation "SFF" on Sunday announced 7 days to mourn for the killing of the popular Somali referee Osman Jama Diraa, SFF said in a statement

"We have lost a great friend and a brother, who has spent much of his lifetime for the development of the game. The seven days is a fixed mourning, but he will always be remembered by all of us. His death is a great loss” SFF president, Abdiqani Said Arab, said in a statement.

Our sincere condolences to Osman's family and colleagues,” Mr. Arab added.

Osman Jama Diraa, who was the chair of the Somali referees and an executive member of the Somali Football Federation, was killed in Mogadishu’s Wardhiigley district on Thursday after armed gunmen shot him to death after returning from the mosque, witnesses and local media reported.

Targeted assassinations is becoming the norm in Mogadishu in recent days, after the government stepped up attacks against the militant basis in Southern Somalia.
