MOGADISHU, Somalia (Horn Observer) The Somali parliament on Saturday postponed its session, after failing to meet the mandatory quorum, officials said,

The parliament was supposed to discuss the handover the ONLF rebel commander to Ethiopia. in which the members of the parliament are divided over the issue.  Somalia government labeled ONLF as a terrorist organization.

"104 MPs are present in today’s sesssion and according Article 16, section 5, I have postponed the 16 session of the parliament in latter date.” Mohamed Osman awaari, the speaker of the parliament said.


MP Zakariye Mohamoud, who is a member of the Asmara group, a former alliance based in the Eritrean capital Asmara accused members of the cabinet for deliberately hindering the parliament’s work after some of the MPs present were told not to sign the parliament’s attendance book.

"Some MPs who are ministers and are here today did not sign the attendance book” Lawmaker Zakariye Mohamoud told the local media in the parliament after the session, "its unfortunate that that the government is hindering the work of the parliament.

Meanwhile Lawmaker Abdishakur Ali Mire warned not to politicize the parliament’s business.

Many analysts believe that foreign governments might have interfered the Somali parliament who are planning to get rid of the government and create political instability in the country.
