    Several Killed at Restaurant Attack in Central Somalia

    BELETWEIN, Somalia (Horn Observer) Several people were killed and 15 others were wounded, among them journalists, on Sunday after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at a popular restaurant here in Beletweine, witnesses and officials said.

BELETWEIN, Somalia (Horn Observer) Several people were killed and 15 others were wounded, among them journalists, on Sunday after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at a popular restaurant here in Beletweine, witnesses and officials said.
Witnesses said that a man wearing explosive vest blew himself at a restaurant frequented by government officials and reporters killing at least 3 and wounding 15 others among them three journalists.

"I was 100m away from the bombing site and I am safe and sound” Abdirisak Mohamed Abdullahi, a Somali journalist who witnessed the attack said, "The whole scene turned into pools of blood"  adding that "Three journalists among the wounded.”

The governor of Hiiraan region, Omar Adan Ibrahim told reporters that the attacker targeted a cafe and killed two civilians.


"Two civilians and the bomber died in the attack” Omar Adan Ibrahim, the governor of Hiiraan region said, while sending his sympathies to all those killed and hoped immediate recovery for the wounded. But the death toll could rise anytime.

Al Shabaab, a militant group affiliated to Alqaeda were quick to take the credit of the attack through its propaganda arm, the Radio Andalus, saying that "They targeted a gathering of senior military commanders and regional officials.”

"We killed six soldiers, among them Djibouti peacekeepers .” The group said.

The attack follows a day after a suicide bomber killed 4 people and wounded three others in the Southern Somalia town of Baidoa on Friday.

Security analysts believe that the Shabab shifted their attacks to the areas outside Mogadishu, after the Somali government launched a security sweeping operations, which was aimed to ensure the security of the Somali capital Mogadishu.
