    Somalia: Hirshabelle Parliament Elects New President in a Highly Contested Vote

    Jowhar, (Horn Observer) Hirshabelle parliament on Saturday elected Mohamed Abdi Waare as its new president, replacing Ali Abdullahi Osoble, officials said.

Jowhar, (Horn Observer) Hirshabelle parliament on Saturday elected Mohamed Abdi Waare as its new president, replacing Ali Abdullahi Osoble, officials said.

Hirshabelle parliament speaker, Sheikh Osman Barre announced the results, after the final voting round end.

According to the speaker, President elect Mohamed Abdi Waare won 74 votes against Dahir Abdulle Awale who only got 23 in a highly contested elections.

The election of the president follows after the the regional State Parliament ousted the former president Ali Abdullahi Osoble on a vote of no-confidence.


AMISOM and Somali troops took over the security of the newly elected president, after the results were announced and the newly elect President was sworn in.
