BARDHERA (Horn Observer) Heavily armed Kenyan military set fire on local telecom company base in Somalia's Gedo region, local media reports.

Witnesses reported that Kenyan army set fire on Hormuud Telecom offices at Khadiija Haji area which is located between Belet Hawo and Elwaq, both bordering with Kenya.

"Heavily armed Kenyan army entered the Hormuud offices and later set  on fire.” Local media reported citing witnesses and residents.

Employees of the Hormuud center fled before the Kenyan army arrived for safety, Hormuud officials confirmed that their offices were burnt by the Kenyan army.

It was not immediatley clear reasons behind the tragic incident that led to the burning of the telecom offices or whether it was an act of revenge.

However, Kenyan authorities did not officially comment on the incident.

Al Shabaab, a militant group affiliated to Alqaeda previously attacked offices owned by Kenyan telecom known as Safaricom.

Kenya is a part of the troop contributing countries, whose army are in Somalia as part of AMISOM, but the current attack against the local businesses by the Kenyan army raises eyebrows and puts the credibility of the Kenyan army in Somalia in question.
