BOSASO, (Horn Observer) Puntland coast guard at the port of Bosaso said on Sunday that they have seized Iranian fishing boat after killing the captain of the boat and wounded another, officials said.

According to Puntland officials, the boat which was carrying 18 Iranian fishermen was illegally fishing at Ras Hafun area in the coastal waters of Puntland.  The boat sped when the coast guard to tried to stop, prompting the troops to fire at the boat, killing the captain and wounding another.

"We managed to seize an Iranian fishing boat on board 18 fishermen who were illegally fishing at Hafun area.” Col. Mohamed Abdi Hashi,  The commander of the Bosaso port told the local media, "The boat tried to scape and our troops fired at it killing the captain and wounding another.”

The illegal fishing, human smuggling and illegal weapons are rampant on the Somalia waters, regardless of the presence of the International anti piracy patrol missions that spend millions of dollars on the mission.

Late last month, Puntland Maritime security seized a boat carrying illegal fire arms  which reportedly from Yemen, at areas close to Bosaso, Puntland's Bari region.
