    Somali Civil Aviation Official Survived from Assassination Attempt

    MOGADISHU (Horn Observer) An official from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and air transport was wounded in Mogadishu on Monday, following an attack by militant Somali group, Al Shabab, witnesses said.

MOGADISHU (Horn Observer) An official from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and air transport was wounded in Mogadishu on Monday, following an attack by militant Somali group, Al Shabab, witnesses said.

The official identified Abdullahi Sheikh Omar, was refueling his car in area between Dharkenley and Wadajir districts, when the attack happened, according to the local media reports. The attackers immediately fled the area.

Abdullahi Sheikh Omar aka Abdullahi Israil was a local director at the Ministry of  Civil Aviation and air transpor.

Shabab claimed the responsibility of the attack, saying that they shot Abdullahi Israil several times on the upper part of his body, aiming to kill him, but survived.


The group, which is affiliated to Alqaeda seems to have intensified its attacks against the government and the AU Mission to Somalia. On Sunday, the group attacked  at a checkpoint in the town Bosaso killing at least 7 people.
