MOGADISHU, (Horn Observer) Somalia government said on Saturday that it has been undertaking accountability among the government institutions in order to combat corruption, started assessment to ensure the overall Somali army and giving the salaries to the Somali army to encourage the fight against terroris, Somalia Ministry of Information said.

Since a research to assess the strength (power) is underway (Operational Readiness Assessment), both the Somali government and the US government agreed to temporarily halt aid to some of the Somali National army, in order to review the security aid, the statement released by the Ministry of information on Friday said.

The suspension follows after the US government in May  sent a committee to investigate where the US military aid is spent in order to review the way the Somali army is supported and to ensure that the aid reaches to the designated areas and how the US military aid was used for the past years.

When the Somali parliament confirmed the government as led prime Minister Khayre, our doors were open to our friends who support the Somali army to create a system based on transparency and accountability.

In the light of that, Somalia government formed a committee to investigate the number and the quality of the Somali military and police, where they are based and their equipment.  The suspension does not effect the agreement signed between the parties on 5 December, in which the US government will continue its assistance toward the specially trained army units in the SOmali army.

Its also noteworthy that Somalia government started to register the Somali army through electronic system, which prevents corruption in the salary and ensures the number and the quality of the army.

According to Somalia government, its committed to reform the Somali army and the financial institutions, and strengthen transparency and accountability.

The Somali government is fighting against the Shabab, a terror organization affiliated to Alqaeda and the ISIS affiliated groups based in Puntland and many security experts view the US military aid as a lifeline to the Somali army in the fight against the terror groups.

On Thursday, 18 Police officers were killed 20 others were wounded when a suicide bomber disguised as a police officer detonated his explosives inside Gen. Kahiye Police Academy, according to Somalia police, the officers were rehearsing for Somalia police day celebrations scheduled for 20 Dec.
