PM Roble calls for hightened operations against Al-Shabaab
MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) - Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has called for intensified operations against Al-Shabaab ahead of parliamentary and presidential elections which are slated for later this year.
In a statement, PM Roble blamed al-Shabaab for carrying out deadly attacks against civilians, saying the militants were responsible for bomb blast that targeted soccer players in Kismayo town of Jubbaland state.
The blast killed four soccer players. The prime minister extended condolences to the families of the victims of an IED that a bus carrying the players in port city of Kismayo.
"I send my condolences to the families of the victims, the administration and the people of Jubbaland. Terrorist acts must not prevent us from achieving our goal of peace and state-building," Roble said.
In recent months, Somali military and regional forces had killed more than hundred militants and recaptured towns in central Somalia.
Several other militants have surrendered to government following military pressure in the frontline.
Late last week, Abdirazak Abdullahi Mohamed, who was a senior al-Shabab operative surrendered to government forces in Garbaharey, a town located in Southern Somalia.
