BELEDWEYNE, Somalia (Horn Observer) feuding clan militias burned down houses in several villages near Beledweyne, the capital of the Hiraan region, amid renewed interclan fighting in the area, local media reported.

Witnesses said that residents in the area have fled and abandoned their homes in the villages, near the town of Beletwein in central Somalia where the clan fighting erupted. At least a dozen people were reportedly killed among them the warring groups.

Hard hit villages include Bacaad Buuko village where there was still a standoff between militias that recently fought in the area. However, resolution efforts were underway in Beledweyne.

Eyewitnesses report that following the destruction of property, people fled the area in fear of revenge attacks.

Hiiraan regional officials were yet to comment on the latest development though they were part of the resolution efforts underway in Beledweyne.
