MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) - Somali president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and his close ally, the recently sacked NISA chief, Fahad Yasin sought the assistance of Member of Parliament, Dahir Amin Jesow to establish a contact with the family of Ikran Tahlil Farah and obstruct the family's quest in seeking justice, according to parliamentarians and security sources privy to the matter.

Ms. Ikraan Tahliil, who was working for the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) as its gender and human rights officer, went missing on the night of 26th June 2021 shortly after she left her apartment just behind NISA headquarters in Shibis district, Mogadishu. According to a CCTV footage from the scene, Ms. Ikran, 25-yr-old, left aboard a white Toyota pick-up owned by NISA.  Her whereabouts had never seen traced since then.

On 2 September, NISA released a statement via the state-owned media to claim that Ms. Ikran was abducted and killed by the terror group, al-Shabaab. But the group refused the accusation. In an English statement on the same day, al-Shabaab said that "should they have found and killed the NISA employee, they should have publicised it" hitting a big blow on NISA.

"MP Jesow had met with President Farmajo on the evening of 6 September inside Villa Somalia compound.  Mr. Farmajo, who was worried about the public outcry brought by NISA's announcement, had asked for help in order to frustrate the pressure that might emerge with regard to the death of Ms. Ikran," said the source.

Mr Jesow comes from the same clan as Ms. Ikran. In this regard, Farmajo sees Jesow's influence in the family as important. Jesow is seeking re-election for his eight-year long parliamentary position.

Last week, Ikran's mother, Qali Mohamud Guhaad condemned MP Jesow and even appealed clan elders and judiciary to help stop Jesow's unscrupulous move meant to frustrate the family's quest for justice.

"Jesow neither represents my daughter, nor my family. He must stop unfounded claims he has been making," Qali said referring a TV interview in which MP Jesow claimed that NISA did not kidnap Ms. Ikran.

According to the family, Mr. Jesow had blocked the family efforts to file complaint in the court even in the early stage of Ikran's disappearance case.

"At the time when the case was new, Jesow and Dhubow turned a dead ear to the family cries. They now want to make a deal and obstruct the investigation. They are advocating for a blood money be paid and the case buried in an attempt to cover up NISA's abusive behaviour and cruelty," said Qali, the mother of Ikran.

On Saturday, Ikran's father, Dr Tahlil who lives in London, gave an interview to Universal Somali TV and warned all the "bad actors" including MP Jesow.

"We are calling for justice. My family and I are waiting for the the court and the investigations to reveal who exactly killed my daughter? how had they killed? where and when?. We will not accept any outside court negotiations," he added.

Meanwhile, the military court in Mogadishu announced to have a received a lawsuit filed by the family lawyers. The lawsuit names Fahad Yasin, Abdullahi Kulane, Yasin Farey and Abdiqani Dhirane Wadne Qabad as the suspects of the disappearance and "death" of Ikran.
