BAIDOA, (Horn Observer) a convoy from Kenyan Defense Forces came under attack outside Bardhere, Gedo region, after a landmine hit the convoy followed by firefight, officials said. Meanwhile Puntland officials said to have arrested 10 suspected Shabaab members.

The attack which was immediately claimed the Shabab, the militant group affiliated to Alqaeda said through Andalus radio - a radio station run by the group - that, " they have killed Kenya soldiers, and burnt down armored vehicles during the raid that took place Fahfahdhun and Tarako villages in Gedo region, which the Kenyan military convoy transporting supplies between when they came under attack.

Local media quoting Shukri Abdullahi Hussein, a Somali army commander said that soon after the landmine attack, firefight ensued that left several soldiers dead.


The exact casualties of the attack was not immediately available.

Elsewhere in Gedo region, Somali government soldiers killed 4 young men suspected for Alshabaab in an extra judicial killing, witnesses reported. Before the four prisoners were executed, they were detained at the Belet Hawo police station in the first place. Their bodies were later found outside Bulo Hawa town, which borders with Kenya.

In a separate incident, Somali forces foiled a landmine attack that was buried by the militants near Siinka dheer area, the road that connects Mogadishu to Afgoi. The landmine was successfully removed, after tips from the local residents about its information, according to Somali government officials.

In Puntland, Authorities in the semi autonomous regions of Puntland said on Monday that they have arrested 10 suspected Shabab members among them women, who they say they were heading to Galgala Mountains in Bari region. The commander of the Darawish army in Puntland Fuäaad Hanaano told the local media that "these people came from the town of Burco in Somaliland to join the Shabab in Puntland.” There are no independent sources confirming their claim. The Puntland government have executed dozens of Shabab suspects, which drew condemnation from the Human rights organizations.
