BELET-HAWO (Horn Observer) The tension of the town of Belet Hawo has dramatically changed in the last 24 hours over the murder of four suspects who were killed without court orders, leading to the arrest of the administration officials.

The Jubbaland Administration in the town of Belet Hawo, which borders with Kenya said that they arrested the district commissioner of Belet Hawo and other officials including the intelligence chief in the town, who were accused of being behind the killing of prisoners. Other media sources indicate that the arrested officials were transferred to a prison in the town of Doolow.

The murder of the prisoners created fears among the residents, prompting some of the people to flee the town. Many people believe that the killing of the prisoners might have been related to previous clan atrocities.

Initial reports said that the four men were killed over alleged to the Shabaab, a militant group affiliated to Alqaeda. However, some of the relatives of the murdered prisoners told the local media that "three of the four prisoners shot by the security forces spent in the Belet Hawo prison for 7 months, until they were shot.”

The murder of the four prisoners is yet another reminder of how some of the government troops are involved in serious human rights violations.
