MOGADISHU, Somalia (Horn Observer) Somali military court on Friday sentenced to death a police officer who shot two civilians in Mogadishu Boondheere neighborhood.

The officer Hassan Adan Hassan, a member of Boondheere Police station, shot to death a 19 year old Madina Abdullahi Abdi,  who died helplessly on the watch of her mother leaving two kids: a one and half year son Hassan and 29-days-old daughter Fartun. The police officer also shot dead a young man, Hassan Ali Addaawe,  20, who was sitting outside his home in the same location of Jubba Junction, a predominantly displacement neighbourhood.

Chief of the Somali military court Col. Hassan Ali Nuur Shuute said while reading the verdict that the police officer Mr. Hassan was found guilty in killing late Abdi and Addaawe.

The police shooting against the civilians is not something new and due to its poor discipline, they routinely fire at civilians aimlessly, though some of them face justice, some are still at large due to the Somalia’s heightened impunity.
