Somali president appoints Mohamed Hussein Roble, 57, as the new Prime Minister of Somalia.
MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) Somalia is expecting to hold its general election in less than two months as the term of the current President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo's administration nears to an end.

A prolonged political deadlock has also put the Horn of African nation to function under a caretaker cabinet since late July when the former premier resigned due to a controversial vote of no confidence at the Parliament.

On Thursday night, president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo appointed 57-years-old Mohamed Hussein Roble as the new Prime Minister to replace his predecessor, Hassan Ali Khaire. The appointment of Mr. Roble comes following the announcement of a political agreement over the election by president Farmajo and the leaders of Puntland, Galmudug, Jubbaland, South West State, Hirshabelle and Banadir in Mogadishu.

WHO IS ROBLE?

Mr. Roble is a civil engineer by profession. Before joining into UN's International Labour Organisation where he worked as a low level employee, he worked as a bus driver in Stockholm, Sweden.  After all he is a double Somali-Swedish citizen.

In the recent history, according to his curriculum vitae, Mr. Roble has worked with the German Development Bank (KFW) as a Technical Advisor in Baidoa, South West State of Somalia.

Mr. Roble, a father of five children, is a graduate of the Somali National University in civil engineering as well as the Royal institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.

The new Prime Minister who hails from Hawiye/Sa'ad clan, is a political novice with no governmental work experience.  But his allies say his soft-spoken-ness and flexibility would mean a golden opportunity to resolve the many grievances the country has underwent.

TASKA AHEAD

The new Prime Minister has a lot of tasks to do in his menu during this short time mandate. The major challenges ahead may include but not limited to managing the transition period of the fragile country, ensuring holding timely elections, dealing with the rampant corruption and preparing the security of the election and the country in general.
