    Somalia: First Night Flight Carrying Pilgrims Lands at Mogadishu Airport in 27 years

    MOGADISHU (Horn Observer) A passenger aircraft carrying 200 passengers, pilgrims landed at Adan Adde Interntional airport on Saturday night, marking the first passenger flight in 27 years.

First passenger aircraft to land Mogadishu airport for the first time in 27 yearas.
MOGADISHU (Horn Observer) A passenger aircraft carrying 200 passengers, pilgrims landed at Adan Adde Interntional airport on Saturday night, marking the first passenger flight in 27 years.



The flight which carries 193 passengers and 7 crews departed from Jeddah for Mogadishu,  according to the airport officials, "the airport will be open during the night and the passenger flights will be able to land.”

Many Somalis had to spend long hours if  transiting at Jomo Kenyatta, Istanbul, Addis ababa, and Djibouti Passenger flights used to make flights during the day. Some of the passengers in Saturday’s flight said that "they were happy to have arrived in Mogadishu at night”

"I am very happy to member of the passengers who got the opportunity to land Mogadishu airport at night" Haji Mohamed Mohamoud Saney, a member of the Somali National Army, who was one of the passengers said.

There has been dispute between the Somali government and AMISOM over the use of the airport during the night, raising security concerns, local media reported that they finally agreed the airport to operate during the night.

Somalia government recently announced that the airport is open for business during the night for the first time for more than 2 decades.
