    US Hits Basis of ISIS Affiliated Militants in Northeastern Somalia

    BOSASO, (Horn Observer) Several militants are believed to have been killed in an airstrikes conducted by the US government in coordination with the Federal government of Somalia, Witnesses and officials said.

BOSASO, (Horn Observer) Several militants are believed to have been killed in an airstrikes conducted by the US government in coordination with the Federal government of Somalia, Witnesses and officials said.

Witnesses said that they have heard big explosions, in an area controlled by ISIS affiliated militants led by Abdulkadir Moumin, 60km outside the town of Qandalla, of Bari region, in Puntland

"The first strike occurred at approximately midnight local Somalia time with the second separate strike occurring at approximately 11 a.m. local Somalia time.” US Africa command said in a statement, "We are currently assessing the results of the strike.”


Qandalla District Commissioner, Jama Mohamed Khuurshe told the local that the locals reported several explosions in the area.

"The targeted area is called Boqo and is close to Dhaadaar village at the Ali Bari mountains.” Qandalla District Commissioner, Jama Mohamed Khuurshe.

ISIS affiliated militants led by Abdulkadir Moumin split from the Shabab following clan based power struggle within the group’s leadership. But, after the split, Shabab drove the ISIS affiliated out of South and Central Somalia.  The group later regrouped in Puntland.
