MOGADISHU (Horn Observer) The US Military on Tuesday said that it had killed more than 100 militants in Somalia, the latest in a series of airstrikes against the Shabab in recent months.

"The Operation was conducted by US forces In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, an airstrike in Somalia against an al-Shabaab camp on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at approximately 10:30 a.m. local Somalia time, killing more than 100 militants.” Statement from the US Africa Command said."The operation occurred 125 miles northwest of the capital, Mogadishu.”

"Our political and security goals in Somalia are the same:  a reconstituted Somali state at peace internally and able to address all threats within its territory.” The statement added.

In a rare move, Al Shabab which is affiliated to Alqaeda immediately denied through its military spokesman, Abu Muscab, who spoke to the Shabab’s Radio Andalus.

"There is no airstrike against our camps.”Abu Muscab said in a message broadcast by the Andalus radio but was published by the local media.

The US MIlitary increased the airstrikes against the Somali militants in what military experts believe could weaken the group’s the capability.

Shabab remains potential threat despite losing large swaths of territories to the AU and Somali Troops and are still capable of carrying out attacks in Mogadishu.
