Hargeysa (Horn Observer) Somaliland Court in Awdal region sentenced on Sunday two journalists working for privately owned television stations to two years in Prison, after the Boorama court found the journalists guilty for spreading false news, local media reported.
Both journalists  Ahmed Diiriye Ciiltire works for SBC TV and Mohamed Abdullahi Hussein aka Dabshid from Kalsan TV, are based in the town of Boorama, in the breakaway republic of Somaliland.

Chairman of Awdal Court, Judge Abdirahman Geeddi Rooble who spoke to the reporters after the sentence said that both journalists were found guilty for spreading false news.

The lawyer who was defending the journalists at the court Abubakar Sheikh Mohamoud said that the journalists did not do the charges brought against them and appealed the verdict.

Journalists in Somaliland work under pressure by the draconian laws put in place that restrict the freedom of expression and silence critical reporting in the northern Somali regions.
