MOGADISHU, Somalia (Horn Observer) — The second leg of Somali Premier League, has resumed on Monday after the Ramadan break with the opening match of the top footballing event was played at Stadium Mogadishu, the country's national football facility.

Top Premier League side, Heegan Sports Club defeated Midnimo FC 2-1 in the first game of the second leg on Monday.

Meanwhile, Heegan Sports Club, became the first sports club in Somalia, if not in the entire Africa or the Arab world to show solidarity with the people of Palestine who have been under heavy bombardment by Israel for the past several days.

Before the match kick off, Heegan’s players were seen posing for a photo as they held a shirt with the flag of Palestine pictured on it to show support for the Palestinians.

The clubs officials said that carrying the flag of Palestine was meant to show solidarity with the people of Palestine in this time of suffering and hardships, as Israel continues to drop bombs on Palestinians and its troops stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s 3rd holiest place.

According to media reports, at least 200 civilians including 58 children were killed by Israeli military since the shelling started a week ago. Only on Monday 305 people were injured in the violence according to Palestinian Red Crescent.
