Somalia: Galmudug Parliamentary poll team elects new chairperson

DHUSAMAREEB (HORN OBSERVER) - A 12-member committee tasked to organized senatorial elections in Galmudug state has nominated its chairperson ahead of the elections.

DHUSAMAREEB (HORN OBSERVER) - A 12-member committee tasked to organized senatorial elections in Galmudug state has nominated its chairperson ahead of the elections.

The committee was on Tuesday appointed by Galmudug Assembly Speaker, Mohamed Nur Ga’al.

In their first meeting held in Dhusamareeb town, the committee elected Abdiwahab Mohamed Ahmed as its chairman, Abdirahman Ahmed Egal as its deputy chairman, and Yasin Mohamed Abdirahman as its secretary.

The members who regional lawmakers include

1. Farhiya Abdullahi Sheikhdoon

2. Abdirihin Ahmed Egal

3. Fadumo Abdi Wehliye

4. Abdirihin Ahmed Barise

5. Abdiweli Ali Mohamud

6. Abdiwahab Mohamed Mohamud

7. Abdi Hassan Elmi

8. Mursal Sheikh Abdirahman

9. Mohamed Mire Ahmed

10. Hassan Hirsi Hashi

11. Yunis Mohamed Share

12. Yasin Mohamed Sheikh

The state is expected to hold its senatorial election in the forthcoming days.

The formation of the committee by Galmudug assembly comes a day after the regional lawmakers in South West State elected the first five senators.

Two of the five seats were explicitly allocated to women to achieve the 30% quota in parliamentary elections.

The following is a list of senators elected today and their respective sub-clans:

1. Aden Abdinasir Mohamed- Hadamo sub-clan, Mirifle Clan
2. Ayan Adam Abdullahi- Hariin sub-clan, Mirifle Clan
3. Senator Zamzam Ibrahim Ali- Hariin sub-clan, Mirifle clan
4. Dr. Hussein Mohamed Dahir-Yeeladle sub-clan, Mirifle Clan
5. Mohamud Abdinur Garabey- Geeladle sub-clan, Mirifle Clan

Last Thursday, Jubbaland lawmakers had elected four of its eight senators.

Jubbaland and South West states will still have to elect four and three more senators respectively.
