DHUSAMAREB - Galmudug parliament on Friday elected speaker and two deputies here in Dhusamareb town in a highly contested election ahead of the region's presidential elections.

Dr. Mohamed Nur Ga’al, a former minister and civil society activist, received 54 votes out of 89 defeating his rival Abdinasir Adan Osman who got 34 votes.

The regional parliament also elected Abdullahi Hirsi Mohamed and Fadumo Abdi Ali as its Deputy Speakers.

Many say that Dr. Ga’al received the Somali federal government's support in his election campaign.

Somalia government has been weighing the regional election, which will have greater impact in the general election which is due to take place in late 2020.
