Somalia: Jubbaland demands inquiry into the assassination of Gedo security official

MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) Jubbaland security minister Yusuf Hussein Osman Dhumal has demanded the federal government of Somalia to initiate an inquiry into the last week's murder of the commander of the top Gedo region's security commander, Abdirahman Abdullahi (Bakal Kooke).
The commander of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in Gedo region was killed in an explosion while traveling between Luuq and Dolow districts in Gedo region.
However, the minister of security in Jubaland, Mr. Dhumal said that Koke's assassination is surrounded by a lot of suspicion, and "that many parties are involved".
Dhumaal said that there was political opponents who were rivals of the slain security officer.
"Actually, we believe there was a matter of conspiracy, which has been following this man for a long time," he added.
Similarly, several Gedo-based politicians pointed fingers on rival officers within NISA in Mogadishu as the force behind Kooke's assassination.
On Friday, the director of the National Intelligence (NISA), Mahad Salad appointed Jamal Hassan Sarey from the military command as the NISA commander in charge of Gedo region.
It comes amid a new tension in the region following the announcement by opposition politicians to create a new resistance force in Gedo region.
