Al-Shabaab captures Turkish-donated light armoured vehicle from the Gorgor forces in central Somalia.
GALKAYO (HORN OBSERVER) – In the ongoing conflict in the central Somali town of Camaara, Mudug region, the second day of intense fighting has revealed significant casualties and a strategic loss for the Somali military and local militias.

Al-Shabaab, the terrorist organization at the center of the conflict, has declared the capture of a Turkish-donated light armored vehicle from the renowned Gorgor contingent.

The light armoured vehicle provided by Ankara to Somali army, was proudly showcased by Al-Shabaab on social media platforms.

Tragically, the deaths of several officers who had been missing since the previous day have been confirmed. Family members, now grappling with the loss, have identified some of the bodies displayed by the extremist group for propaganda purposes.

A family member, speaking on condition of anonymity due to safety concerns, stated, "My brother-in-law was missing since yesterday. We are now sure that he is among the officers killed.”

Among the casualties is Major Hussein Aden, a courageous officer from the Gorgor contingent previously stationed in Mogadishu.

Recently redeployed to Mudug due to his clan affiliation with the region, Major Aden’s sacrifice underscores the severity of the ongoing conflict.

The Ministry of Defense has chosen not to comment on Al-Shabaab’s claims, leaving family members distressed as they seek information about their missing loved ones.

Local sources report that heavy fighting persisted on Monday, with militant groups converging from seven directions, overrunning army bases in the region.
