Former MP shot dead in Somali capital Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) – Unidentified gunmen targeted and fatally shot Ibrahim Salah Deyfullah, a former member of Somalia's parliament, in Mogadishu on Friday afternoon, the family and government officials confirmed.

MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) – Unidentified gunmen targeted and fatally shot Ibrahim Salah Deyfullah, a former member of Somalia's parliament, in Mogadishu on Friday afternoon, the family and government officials confirmed.

The assailants approached Deyfullah, firing multiple shots before swiftly escaping the scene.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the killing.

Deyfullah, leaving a mosque after afternoon prayers, fell victim to the gunmen’s attack, as confirmed by family members.

Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre expressed his condolences over the killing, denouncing it as the act of "brutal gangs in Mogadishu” and specifying that it occurred as Deyfullah exited the house of God.

Describing the deceased as a former member of the People’s House (Lower House of the Federal Parliament), Hamsa highlighted Deyfullah’s years of service to the people and the country.

However, the police have yet to provide comments on the incident or indicate whether an investigation will be initiated.

Mogadishu has witnessed a surge in assassinations, with recent incidents targeting businesses and local companies, notably Hormuud Telecom and its affiliate Banadir Electric Company (BECO).

On Thursday, a BECO employee faced a bomb attack, adding to a series of bombings directed at vehicles and employees associated with Hormuud Telecom.

The escalating violence raises concerns about the security situation in the capital, prompting questions about the efficacy of law enforcement and the need for investigations into the real perpetrators.
