Garowe, (Horn Observer) US president Donald Trump authorized airstrikes targetting ISIS-Somalia operatives in the Golis mountains of Northeastern Somalia of Puntland, where Puntland forces are battling against the terror group, US officials said, amid Puntland's Information ministry Puntland has prohibited media outlets from communicating with the group.

Multiple operatives were killed in an strikes against ISIS group on Saturday, US Africa command said, while the strikes primarily helps the Puntland ground forces to advance.

In a statement released by the US Department of Defense quoting Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said that at the President Trump's direction and in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, we authorize U.S. Africa Command to conduct coordinated airstrikes today targeting ISIS-Somalia operatives in the Golis mountains.

There were no civilian casualties reported. U.S. Africa Command said it took  great measures to prevent civilian harm. Protecting civilians remains a vital part of the command’s operations to promote a more secure and stable Africa.

"This action further degrades ISIS's ability to plot and conduct terrorist attacks threatening U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians and sends a clear signal that the United States always stands ready to find and eliminate terrorists who threaten the United States and our allies, even as we conduct robust border-protection and many other operations under President Trump's leadership.” The statement added.

Meanwhile, Puntland’s information minister Mahmoud Aydiid Dirir said that his authorities prohibted media outlets from communicating with the group, in what he termed as efforts to secure its millitary operations against ISIS.

"The decision aims to safeguard operational secrecy and ensure that journalists adhere to official guidelines during this critical phase of the campaign, "Mahmoud Aydiid Dirir, Puntland Minister of Information said, "Information on military activities must be sourced exclusively from government channels.”

Last week, the militants initiated an attack with a suicide car bomb, but the Puntland Defense Forces were prepared, repelling the assault with precision, according to the spokesperson, all attackers were eliminated, including eight foreign fighters, and their weapons were confiscated.
