Barawe, Somalia — Troops from the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) carried out a joint security patrol in Barawe Sub-Sector on Saturday as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security, reassure residents and sustain recent operational gains, according to a statement released by the AUSSOM

The patrol was led by AUSSOM Battle Group 45 Commander Col. Justus Musenene and SNAF 66 Brigade Commander Col. Abdurahman Elmi. According to the commanders, the operation was aimed at disrupting Al-Shabaab activities while reinforcing public confidence in security operations across the area.

Col. Musenene emphasized the importance of close collaboration between AUSSOM, the Somali National Armed Forces and local communities in maintaining stability. He reaffirmed AUSSOM's commitment to mentoring and supporting Somali security forces in line with the mission's mandate, while promoting cooperation with local residents.

Col. Elmi called on Barawe residents to continue supporting security efforts by providing timely information to security agencies. He also praised AUSSOM personnel for their professionalism, dedication and continued support in operations against Al-Shabaab.

Residents welcomed the joint patrol and expressed their commitment to supporting peace and security initiatives in the area. The commanders said similar patrols would continue throughout the Barawe Sub-Sector to sustain pressure on Al-Shabaab, improve public safety and create a more secure environment for local communities and development.
