New Ethiopian Coalition Emerges as Reported Drone Strike Destroys Tigray Aid

A new coalition of seven Ethiopian political and armed groups has emerged amid the country's continuing political and humanitarian crises, while a reported drone strike has destroyed a truck carrying food assistance to displaced people in Tigray

On September 20, 2026, a drone strike carried out by the Federal Government of Ethiopia targeted a humanitarian aid vehicle traveling from Adi Nebried to Adi Daero, near the Crecher site in Northwestern Tigray.

A new coalition of seven Ethiopian political and armed groups has emerged amid the country's continuing political and humanitarian crises, while a reported drone strike has destroyed a truck carrying food assistance to displaced people in Tigray.

The Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival, known as the Alliance for Survival, said it would coordinate its members’ efforts to challenge the government and push for an inclusive transitional administration. Its members include the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, Oromo Liberation Army and Amhara Fano National Movement, along with four other groups.

In a separate development, officials in northwestern Tigray said a truck carrying grain for displaced families was struck by drones near Adi Daero on the Shire–Sheraro road. They said the truck and its cargo were destroyed. The shipment was reportedly part of U.S.-provided humanitarian assistance.

The reported strike comes as displaced communities in Tigray continue to face severe food insecurity and limited access to essential services, adding to concerns over the delivery of humanitarian aid in conflict-affected areas.
