
Turkish trained forces storm local radio station in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) - Turkish trained forces have today destroyed equipment including computers belonging to a privately owned radio station based in Mogadishu, the station and media watchdog confirmed Tuesday.
Ahmed Isse Ahmed Gutale, the director of the station told the media that the paramilitary forces known as Haram’ad attacked the station in the early morning.
According to Somali Journalists Syndicate (SJS), the forces bit the editor of the station, Bashir Mohamud Yusuf and confiscating computers, laptops, phones and cameras.
Bashir who also spoke to the media confirmed that radio was put off-air.
"The Haramad police entered our building this morning. They beat me with the gun and I sustained bruises on my chest and back. When they saw my journalist Identification Card, one officer even cocked his gun and threatened to kill me. They entered the office and confiscated desktops, laptops, phones and cameras,” Bashir said.
Abdalle Ahmed Mumin, the secretary general of SJS has expressed concern over the raid of the station saying his organization documented three other cases of journalists’ detention, beatings, threats since last Sunday when armed clashes broke out in the capital.
"We strongly condemn the violent attack on Radio Mustaqbal today and the physical assault on journalist Bashir Mohamud Yusuf. We call on the police and security officials to immediately return the equipment taken from the radio as we also call for an independent investigation into this violent attack,” Mumin.
