Hirshabelle and Galmudug, Farmajo allied states have today decided to turn against the president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaaji's term extension in office.

In a joint statement, the leaders of the states called for a return to talks on the national election based on 17th Sep agreement between the federal government and its member states.

"We call for an urgent election. Any form of extension should be cancelled,” the presidents of the Hirshabelle and Galmudug regions said in a joint statement on Facebook.

Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Roble welcomed the decision in an immediate address.

The Prime Minister said he will honour his pledge to parliament to lead the country into elections in line with the September 2020 Agreement.

"Following the program of my government that I read before the parliament, I am ready to conduct the election that was agreed on September 17, 2020,” the PM said in a statement.

The Prime minister called on the armed forces in Somalia's capital to return to their barracks.

"The armed forces like me should fulfill their constitutional obligations and ensure security, especially the commanders of the army should return to their camps,” the PM added while calling on the opposition to refrain from actions that can cause more conflict.

Roble also urged all other Somali Federal Member States to work together for peace and the resolution of the ongoing electoral stalemate.

The decision was also commended by the leaders of the opposition.

Meanwhile President Mohamed Farmaajo is expected to address the nation tonight.
