Somali parliament passes the country's Electoral Bill

MOGDISHU, Somalia (Horn Observer) Somali parliament has on Saturday passed the country's electoral in an overwhelming vote, officials said.
5 MPs opposed where 2 abstained to vote.
Lawmaker Mahad Salaad said in the electoral law was passed after some corrections were made, especially the Term extention by the parliament and Somaliland issues.
Somalia said it plans one-man one vote election in the years 2020/2021 throughout the country, given that the country’s south is partially occuped the Somali militants.
Somalia minister of Youth Khadiijo Diirie, who is also a lawmaker told the parliament weeks ago one-man one vote is not possible in the country due to the security gab, where voters will not be able to vote or candidates not able to travel out of Mogadisu by land safely.
Critics and opposition political parties and the Somalia’s international partners urged the government to hold the election as scheduled. However, some lawmakers hint that the parliament is likely to extend its term, which if becomes would give a chance by the government government to follow suit.

171 lawmakers out of 178 voted in favor of the law which practically reduces the presidential powers to nominate a prime minister, paving a way that the majority party in the parliamentary seats will automatically gets the prime minister.
