MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) Somalia lacks an independent judiciary and makes the judges to be subject of the improper influence of the other government branches, according to the former Attorney General, Ahmed Ali Dahir.
Mr Dahir was sacked in November last year as the country's Attorney General due to his strict stance of the judiciary independence.
The former AG notes how the citizens continue to suffer under widespread injustices as the national leaders fail to agree on the establishment of the independent judicial service commission,
"The formation of the Somali Judicial Service Commission has been politicized. It is very important for the country to have an independent judiciary," Mr. Dahir said.
He has accused of the national leaders of not agreeing to the establishment of the body which could have become a base for the constitutional court which does not exist, which would settle disputes over constitutional disputes and related matters.
The former Attorney General emphasised the need for a strong, efficient and independent judiciary as part of achieving the check and balance principle which creates a balance between the three separate branches of the government: the executive, the legislature and the judiciary.
