Civilian vehicle hit by IED kills at least 17 in Somalia's Middle Shabelle region

”17 people were killed and 2 others were wounded after a public transport minibus traveling between Mogadishu-Jowhar road was hit by an IED near Gololey area” Colonel Abshir Mohamed Mohamud, Commander of the 3rd Battalion, 27th Division of the Somali National Army told the State run radio Mogadishu in an interview.
However, the attack follows only days after Somalia government announced the maintenance and rehabilitation of the Mogadishu – Jowhar road, a move widely welcomed by the Somali public transport drivers.
No group claimed the responsibility
for the attack, however, Somali militant group Al-Shabab used to claim the
credit for the similar attacks in the past.
The Somali militants similarly attacked the Mogadishu-Afgoi road on a regular basis where similar road maintenance was underway through roadside bombs, mines and hit and run attacks on both employees working on the road, the public transport vehicles, Somali government and African Union mission to Somalia.
