
Al-Shabaab executes old Man for alleged Blasphemy

MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) - An old man has been executed by al-Shabaab militants in central Somalia after the militants accused of committing blasphemy, the second of its kind since 2015.
A militant court in Galgaduud region has sentenced an 83-year-old man, identified as Hassan Tohow Fidow to death for allegedly insulting prophet Mohamed (PBUH).
The court said the man confessed to insulting the prophet in Hindhere village in Galgaduud region.
The judge said anyone who insults the Prophet Muhammad or Allah will face a punishment of death.
The group did not give further details about the alleged insult.
Fidow was executed by firing squad outside Elbur town, according to an al-Shabaab media.
In 2015, the group executed Mohamud Mursal Muse for allegedly insulting the Prophet Mohamed.
Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda affiliate group had previously executed dozens of people including foreign fighters after the group accused them of espionage, killing and defection.
The group carries out deadly raids on bases of Somali military and African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom).
Al-Shabaab which once was in control of large swarth territories in south and central Somalia including the capital was lost many towns to Somali military following days long fighting with allied forces of Somali government and African Union.
The group lost the capital in 2011 after Somali military drove its fighters out the town.
