MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) -Colonel Yasin Abdullahi Mohamud who was last night appointed to lead Somalia's national intelligence and security agency (NISA) has today assumed office.
In a brief statement, NISA announced that Mohamud has taken up office as the nation's spy chief.
"The new HSNQ Interim Commander, Colonel Yasin Abdullahi Mohamud, took office at the National Security and Intelligence Command,” NISA said.
Mohamud was appointed Tuesday night by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to replace the outgoing director of NISA, Fahad Yasin. He has been the head of the Benadir Regional Intelligence Service until his appointment.
Two days ago, Somali prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble suspended Fahad and appointed General Bashir Jama Gobe to lead the agency as an acting.
It was not immediately clear if General Gobe made his way into intelligence headquarters in downtown Mogadishu.
According to sources, pro-Farmaajo have been deployed at the headquarters of the agency with most of the roads leading to the NISA headquarters cordoned off.
