MOGADISHU (Horn Observer) Coordinated terror attacks struck multiple towns in Somalia's Southwest State on Tuesday, resulting in reported casualties, as confirmed by local officials and community members.

In the town of Goof Gaduud Buurey, militants launched an attack during the early evening, sparking a heavy gunfight with security forces. As the insurgents withdrew, at least three people were reported injured in the clash.

Mayafulka area witnessed an assault on an army base by Al-Shabaab fighters, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire.

In the Baay region’s Diinsoor town, heavy fighting erupted when Al-Shabaab fighters targeted separate bases of the Somali army and Ethiopian forces midnight Tuesday. The confrontation lasted over an hour, and residents reported one person killed and several others injured during the militants’ retreat.

Both the Somali army and Al-Shabaab have yet to issue official statements regarding the attacks.

Moving to Lower Shabelle region, Al-Shabaab launched an assault on a military base in Qoryooley town and followed up with a second attack on the security forces stationed at Danow security checkpoint. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in these particular incidents.

As of now, security officials have not provided any official comments on the series of attacks.

Separately, on the same day, Al-Shabaab ambushed an Ethiopian military convoy near Waajid town in the Bakool region. According to Al-Shabaab’s claims, at least eight Ethiopian soldiers were killed in the attack. However, independent sources are yet to verify the reported casualties.

These incidents mark an escalation in militant attacks in Somalia since May, coinciding with the gradual reduction of African Union Transition Mission (ATMIS) peacekeepers in the country.
