MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) - At least five people were injured as mortar shells rained down on various districts of Mogadishu, plunging the Somali capital into a night of terror on Saturday.

Local reports indicated that residential areas in Waberi, Bondhere, Shibis, and Yaqshid bore the brunt of the attacks, with all casualties reported as civilians.

Initial confusion shrouded the source of the mortar shelling, with police unable to identify the direction from which the attacks originated.

Meanwhile, fear gripped residents as a suspected Toyota Prado, believed to be a suicide car, was abandoned near a busy supermarket on the city's main Maka al Mukarama road, prompting a mass exodus of residents and businesses from the area. The city center lay deserted as terror permeated the streets.

The chaos escalated with the detonation of a bomb near the Dabka junction, just in front of an ice cream shop. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from this incident, but it further heightened tensions in the city.

Tragically, on the outskirts of Mogadishu in Ceelasha Biyaha, a bomb blast claimed the lives of at least four people, including three young children, on Saturday evening.

Police investigations revealed that the explosion occurred while an alleged member of Al-Shabaab was reportedly preparing explosives inside a house in the area.

The blast resulted in the death of the suspected militant and the three children, while a woman believed to be his wife sustained severe injuries.

This tragic incident has raised questions about the involvement of the children and the woman in the activities of the Al-Shabaab member.

However, independent verification of their association with the terrorist organization remains elusive at present.

The events of Saturday night have sent shockwaves through Mogadishu, highlighting the persistent threat of violence facing residents and the challenges in maintaining security in the capital city.
