Hormuud Telecom engineer survives after bomb went off in his car.
MOGADISHU (HORN OBSERVER) – A telecommunications engineer employed by Somalia's largest telecom provider, Hormuud Telecom, narrowly escaped a bomb blast targeted at his vehicle on Tuesday.

The incident unfolded in the Daaru Salam neighborhood of Mogadishu, the Somali capital, as the engineer was about to leave for work from his home, Kaab TV reported.

Eyewitnesses and company sources confirm that the bomb detonated while the engineer was not yet inside the vehicle, sparing him from harm.

The damage was limited to the car, and no casualties were reported.

This marks the 13th attack on employees, vehicles, and company infrastructure since November 7, intensifying concerns about the safety and security of Hormuud Telecom.

In the latest devastating incident on Monday, a bomb struck a fuel tanker belonging to the telecom company. Prior to that, on Saturday, an attack claimed the life of Abdiwahab Osman Ahmed, an employee in Mogadishu’s Huriwa district, leaving two others injured. The day before, another employee tragically lost his life when a bomb targeted his Toyota Noah vehicle in Mogadishu’s Huriwa neighborhood.

Despite the alarming frequency of these attacks, no group has officially claimed responsibility, adding to the growing apprehension surrounding Hormuud Telecom.

The company has been under siege since November, with over 10 reported incidents targeting employees, offices, telecom masts, and vehicles, both within and outside Mogadishu. Regrettably, several employees have lost their lives in these attacks.

In a disconcerting silence, the Mogadishu police have refrained from commenting on these incidents.

However, representatives from Hormuud Telecom, speaking anonymously, have pointed to multiple potential adversaries.

These include the militant group Al-Shabaab and elements within the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

Amidst the escalating violence, reports hint at a possible rift between Hormuud and NISA’s director and associates, suggesting underlying business issues within the telecom sector.

The situation remains tense as the telecom giant grapples with a barrage of attacks, and the lack of official information raises concerns about the broader security landscape in Mogadishu.
