Mogadishu, Somalia (Horn Observer) At least 3 civilians were killed at Lafoole neighborhood near Afgoi town, some 25km South of the Somali capital Mogadishu after militants briefly seized Lafoole neighbhood early hours of Saturday morning, residents said.

Residents who spoke with Horn Observer said that shortly after the Shabab seized the area on Saturday morning,  they erected their black flag and ambushed government forces passing by the street. In the firefight 3 civilians were killed.

Similarly the Shabab fighters were also seen tonight patrolling Hawo Abdi neibhrohood, witnesses said.   Local media reports said that the group were also patrolling Elasha Biyaha along the Mogadishu Afgoye road.

"I have seen more than 50  armed Shabab fighters patrolling Elasha Biyaha tonight, shortly after finishing the Tarawih prayer from the Mosque”, one resident wrote on Facebook.

This latest development follows after the group attacked early hours of Saturday at Awdheegle district in Lower Shabelle region. The Somali government successfully repelled the group’s attack, according to Somali government officials who spoke with the local media.

Somalia government banned the local media from reporting security related issues and threatened with serious consequences should media dare to report, leaving the wider public uninformed about what happening around them.
