Somalia: Multiple mortar rounds hit parts of the Mogadishu airport and Halane

Some of the mortars hit at Adan Adde airport, an area where UN personnel board aircraft and another hit inside Halane area. The sound of the mortars were heard in some of the neighborhoods of Mogadishu.
Meanwhile, the airport emergency sirens were heard, causing a sense of panic.
The official casualty figure of the attack is not yet known.
Somalia’s Alqaeda affiliated group Al-Shabab immediately claimed the responsibility of the attack.
So far, there has been no comment from security officials regarding the mortars that targeted the Halane camp and the airport, which houses international organizations, embassies, and foreign diplomats operating in the country.
Al-Shabaab has repeatedly launched mortar attacks on the capital, targeting the presidential palace, Halane camp, and other important locations. The latest mortar attack on the airport occurred as the Ethiopian Prime Minister was disembarking from his recent visit to Mogadishu.
The attack of the airport and Halane comes a day after Somali president’s convoy was targeted with huge blast at Ceelgaabta area, near the presidential palace killing at least a dozen people.
