
Somalia Hosts Women's Business Fair to Mark International Women's Day
The fair was officially opened by the Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, who highlighted the important role Somali women play in the country’s development. She noted that the event goes beyond showcasing women-led businesses by also providing free medical examinations and treatment services to support women in need.
Representatives of women’s organizations welcomed the initiative, emphasizing its importance in empowering women entrepreneurs and improving access to essential services. Xersiyo Abdulle Siyad, Chairperson of the Somali Women’s Business Association, and Duniyo Mohamed Ali, speaking on behalf of women’s groups, expressed appreciation to the ministry for organizing the event and supporting women across the country.
Additional remarks were delivered by the Director General of the Ministry, Mohamed Bashir Omar, and the Secretary General of the Banadir Regional Administration, Bilan Bile Mahmoud.
Somalia annually celebrates Somali Women’s Week alongside International Women’s Day, with this year’s activities focusing on expanding economic opportunities for women and improving access to healthcare services. The Women’s Business Fair brings together entrepreneurs, organizations, and community members to highlight women’s contributions to Somalia’s economic and social development

Mogadishu, Somalia (Horn Observer) Somalia marked International Women's Day with the opening of the Somali Women's Business Fair in Mogadishu, an event aimed at promoting women's entrepreneurship and supporting vulnerable women throug
