Mudug Governor, Ahmed Muse Nur killed in a suicide bombing in Galkayo.
GALKAYO (HORN OBSERVER) A suicide bomber believed to be driving a tuk tuk has blew himself off at the Mudug Regional Headquarters in the north of Galkayo killing the Governor, Ahmed Muse Nur and three bodyguards on Sunday.

According to Mudug police sources and eyewitnesses, a tuk tuk loaded with explosives hit the Governor's vehicle as he was entering the regional offices building around 2.pm midday.

"The tuk tuk which was full of explosives drove straight to the Governor's vehicle. It went off and killed the Governor Ahmed Muse Nur and his three police guards," Mohamed Saney Hassan, a police officer in Galkayo north, an area controlled by Puntland told Horn Observer.

An eyewitness Said Abdinur said there was gunfire followed the huge smoke that went to air from the explosion site.

"We could not see anything at all. Immediately there was gunfire. The Governor's car was burnt down," he adds.

Al-Shabaab militant group took credit of the attack. The group, through its jihadist media said that the Mudug Governor was "targeted by a suicide bomber sent to assassinate him".

Puntland President, Said Abdullahi Deni has condemned the attack vowing that justice will be served to arrest the ruthless perpetrators who committed the Governor's murder.

"All terrorist elements who are behind such attacks will be brought to justice and will be punished in public. Puntland is facing the fight against terrorist groups who are the enemy of Puntland and the enemy of the Somali people," Mr Deni said in a statement released on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile the Somali Federal Government also condemned the Galkayo attack while calling for the community in Mudug to unite against terrorist groups.

The death of Ahmed Muse Nur comes less than three months after the death of Puntland's Nugaal Governor, Abdisalan Hassan Hersi who succumbed to injuries following an attack by a lone suicide bomber who targeted him in Garowe in March.
